ELITE
Lead-Acid Batteries
Introduction
The Yuasa Elite range has
been designed to offer the consumer a battery that combines
the latest technological advancements in battery design with
maximum performance and durability. Elite batteries exceed
most OEM battery safety and performance standards. The Elite
range consists of 6 references covering approximately 80%
of the UK vehicle parc.
Features
Ultimate Performance
The new Elite battery features
the most advanced battery technology available on the market
today. It contains additional premium active material, providing
superior performance and greatly increased service life compared
to conventional batteries.
Leakage Protection
The new Elite lid design meets
and exceeds the latest German OEM safety standards for acid
leakage under extreme conditions. These standards require
that the battery can withstand acid leakage when upside down
for a minimum of 30 minutes when off charge and
a minimum of 2 minutes whilst receiving a charge. Many
of the newer vehicles on our roads have the battery fitted
inside the passenger compartment, usually under the rear seat
or in the boot. In the event of an accident whereby the vehicle
has rolled onto its side or roof, conventional batteries will
immediately begin leaking acid into the passenger compartment.
This can be extremely hazardous to the occupant of the vehicle.
The new Elite range prevents the leakage of acid in these
situations.
Maintenance Free
All Elite batteries conform to
the relevant section of EN50342:2006 for maintenance free
characteristics (VLWL very low water loss). This means
that when used in approved vehicle applications that operate
in normal conditions, it is not necessary to add water to
the battery.
Elite batteries are maintenance possible not impossible, the
batteries are designed to be topped up if water loss has occurred.
Excess water loss can be caused by many things, amongst the
most common are a charging system fault, prolonged operation
in hot climates and excessive off vehicle charging.
Deep Cycle
Modern cars have an array of electrical
devices fitted as standard with many more being available
in the aftermarket. This has meant that batteries are working
harder than ever and consequently the service life is reduced.
The new Elite range has been designed using special plate
materials and processes which enable the battery to be deep
discharged and recharged (cycled) without affecting the starting
performance. The Elite battery can typically cycle 25% more
than a conventional battery.
Charge Indicator
A charge indicator gives an indication
at a glance of the battery's state of charge. It provides
information on the energy available from your battery and
can potentially avoid a vehicle starting problem in the near
future.
Green: Battery is charged (typically 60% plus). It
should provide a reliable vehicle start.
Black: The battery's state of charge is not in its
optimum state. The battery should be recharged. If the vehicle
has not been left standing for a while, check for any current
drain from recently fitted devices or interior lamps.
Clear: Check electrolyte level and refill with distilled
water. Check for a possible alternator regulator fault which
would cause high water loss.
Safety Venting
All the Elite batteries feature
a Flame Arrestor disc built into the lid. This provides complete
protection from external sparks.
The new Elite batteries are all end venting. This allows the
gases that are produced during charging to be piped to the
atmosphere as specified and required by many vehicle manufacturers.
Ultimate Expanded Calcium Technology
Ultimate expanded positive grid plate technology utilises
specially rolled (wrought) Lead/Calcium/Tin (SCS) alloys and
developed plate manufacturing process to give the optimum
automotive battery design.
The wrought expanded grid process gives a significantly stronger
and smaller grid grain structure than comparable cast calcium-silver
alloys. Yuasas innovative plate manufacturing and formation
processes are essential in maximising the benefits of Expanded
Calcium technology.
