Lead-Acid Batteries
Introduction
The Yuasa Cargo and Cargo HD ranges cover a full complement
of battery types for the commercial vehicle market. The range
contains 18 references that cover most CV applications including
Trucks, Agricultural & Plant Equipment and passenger service
vehicles. Yuasa has designed this new range to manage the
increasing demands placed on the batteries by the modern commercial
vehicle. The Cargo and Cargo HD range offers market leading
performance levels and most importantly, peace of mind for
the operator.

Cargo
Optimum Performance
The batteries for the Cargo range have been designed specifically
to meet the exacting requirements of the commercial vehicle
market. Todays commercial batteries require greater
power and cycling ability to cope with the increased amounts
of electrical equipment used in these vehicles. The modern
sleeper cab can run televisions, satellites, microwaves, nightlights,
fridges etc. Repeated overnight use of this equipment followed
by an engine start in the morning means that it is critical
that the battery fitted is designed to cope with these extreme
conditions.
Note: The CV market is flooded with low cost batteries
based on automotive level technology which offers good initial
starting performance, but does not offer sufficient design
durability to maintain sufficient battery life for CV applications.
Maintenance Free
All Cargo batteries conform to the relevant section of EN50342:2006
for maintenance free characteristics (LWL low water
loss). This means that when used in approved vehicle applications
that operate in normal conditions, it is not necessary to
add water to the battery.
Cargo batteries are maintenance possible not impossible, the
batteries are designed to be topped up if water loss has occurred.
Excess water loss can be caused by many things, amongst the
most common are a charging system fault, prolonged operation
in hot climates and excessive off vehicle charging.
Performance Optimised Grid Technology
Yuasa have used a careful balance between lower density thinner
plates for starting performance and thicker plates for cyclic
durability. This optimum design has been developed by the
Yuasa technical team, taking into account extensive commercial
vehicle fleet trials and Yuasas global market experience.

Ultimate Performance
The Cargo Heavy Duty battery builds on the design of the Cargo
battery but in addition it offers an increased cycling capability,
longer service life and is resistant to constant vibration.
These batteries are designed to cope with the most demanding
commercial applications such as vehicles with tail lifts,
agricultural vehicles, passenger service vehicles and sleeper
cabs with numerous electrical devices.
Maintenance Free
All Cargo HD batteries conform to the relevant section of
EN50342:2006 for maintenance free characteristics (LWL

Deep Cycle
The Cargo HD batteries have been designed to maximise the
deep cycle capability through innovative plate formulations
and design. Typically each Cargo HD battery will cycle to
50% charge and back in excess of 120 times.
Performance Optimised Grid Technology
Yuasa has designed the batteries for the Cargo HD range with
more emphasis on cycling durability than starting power, so
the plates used have higher paste densities. To recover the
consequential loss in starting performance, more active material
has been added to maintain a similar level of performance
as the standard Cargo range.
Vibration Resistance
The Cargo HD battery by design is built to conform to the
vibration resistance criteria EN50342:2006. This is particularly
useful for agricultural applications where the vehicle is
constantly travelling over uneven terrain. With a conventional
battery, this constant vibration can cause the active material
in the plates to come away from the grids and can very quickly
result in a battery failure
