YUASA ADDS HEAVY DUTY VERSIONS TO CARGO SERIES BATTERIES FOR COMMERCIAL VEHICLE APPLICATIONS
Yuasa Battery has added three new heavy duty versions to its Cargo range of automotive batteries designed to handle the ever-increasing power demands of modern commercial vehicles.
Equipped to deal with all situations and environments, Yuasa Cargo HD 12V automotive batteries offer capacities from 135 to 220Ah (at 20h rate) and feature increased cycling capability and longer service life. Resistant to constant vibration, the Cargo HD batteries are designed to cope with the most demanding commercial applications such as vehicles with tail lifts, agricultural vehicles, passenger service vehicles and where vehicles have sleeper cabs fitted with numerous electrical devices. Like all Cargo batteries, the new heavy duty versions offer market leading performance and, most importantly, peace of mind for vehicle operators.
Batteries in the Cargo HD range are designed specifically to meet the exacting requirements of the commercial vehicle market. Today’s CV batteries require greater power and cycling ability to cope with the increased array of electrical equipment used in these vehicles – a modern sleeper cab will typically need to run televisions, satellite receivers, microwaves, nightlights and refrigerators among other things. Repeated overnight use of such equipment followed by an engine start in the morning means that it is critical for the fitted battery to be able to cope with these extreme conditions.
Yuasa Cargo HD batteries conform to the relevant section of EN50342:2006 for maintenance free characteristics (LWL – low water loss) meaning that, when used in approved vehicle applications that operate in normal conditions, it is not necessary to add water to the battery.
Cargo batteries are maintenance possible, not impossible so that water levels can be topped up if water loss does occur. Excess water loss can occur in many circumstances, among the most common being charging system faults, prolonged operation in hot climates and excessive off-vehicle charging.
The new Cargo HD batteries are designed to maximise the deep cycle capability through innovative plate formulations and design. Typically, each Cargo HD battery will cycle to 50% in excess of 120 times.
Yuasa designed the batteries for the Cargo HD range with more emphasis on cycling durability than starting power so the plates have higher paste densities. To recover the consequential reduction in starting performance, more active material has been added to maintain a similar level of performance compared with the standard Cargo range.
Cargo HD batteries are built to conform to the vibration resistance criteria set out by EN50342:2006. This is particularly useful for agricultural applications where vehicles constantly travel over uneven terrain. In conventional batteries, this constant vibration can cause the active material in the plates to come away from the grids, a fault that can very quickly lead to battery failure.
